Energy snapshot

Countries in Southeast Asia continue to experience rapid growth in transport demand, with the number of passenger light-duty vehicles increasing by around 70% by 2040, to over 60 million, in the New Policies Scenario. Transport oil demand increases by 50% in this time, as oil continues to meet around 90% of transport energy demand, while the adoption of efficiency policy in transport sector, such as fuel economy standards, is limited. The net impact is that the improvements in fuel economy in Southeast Asia lag behind the global trend.
